Rooftop terrace, Forum+
Brugge, Belgium. Lawnmower, balloon, aluminium foil.
I was invited to exhibit at Forum+, a group exhibition instigated by the Groeningen Museum (Brugge, Belgium) together with the Austrian artist Heimo Zobernig and the Austrian curator Peter Pakesch. Artists were asked to make work in situ for a space in the building, which is a concert hall. Instead, I decided to present a series of works on the terrace. On the roof I placed an old lawnmower, which cut grass throughout the city for years, that I found in a storage owned by the city council. A second work was sparked by the idea of using the wind, which I discovered to be a hot topic because of Brugge’s geographic position close to the North Sea. I placed an inflatable balloon, stabilised with water and recovered in aluminium foil, able to roll around the terrace. A third work was propelled by my fascination towards something I noticed upon my landing in Brussels’ airport: in the grass between the runways small communities of rabbits live there seemingly undisturbed in holes in the ground.
